The latest models of the Korean brand - Sportage and Optima received the maximum rating - 5 stars for safety in the latest crash tests conducted by the leading independent European organization - Euro NCAP.
Optima and Sportage achieved high results in adult occupant protection tests, respectively, 89% and 90%, children - 86% and 90%.
KIA Optima (http://www.kmanual.net/en/Optima) was awarded for the equally high level of protection for all passengers in the car in frontal and side impacts, regardless of the proportions of the passenger or his seat in the car. The Sportage compact crossover also performed well in terms of occupant protection, especially in the B-pillar side impact test.
Active safety technologies are a key component of the new KIA models as a means of maximum protection for passengers in the cabin. The Optima and Sportage scored 71% in the Safety Assistant category, one of the most important categories in crash tests.
The all-new Optima and Sportage are two of the most high-tech models Kia has produced, each offering a wide range of active safety systems to help the driver avoid potential collisions.
Integrated Vehicle Stability Control (VSM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and power steering are standard, ensuring stability in all road conditions. Both models also include:
The Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system, which protects against impacts, warns the driver and facilitates his reaction by activating the brakes themselves if necessary. The technology works with active forward radar, video and light sensor.
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), which warns with an audible signal when the driver deviates from the road without indication.
Lane Departure System (LKAS), which detects the vehicle's position relative to the lane markings and takes automatic corrective action when necessary.
High Beam Assistant (HBA), which automatically adapts the headlights to road users and road conditions
SLIF acceleration function that shows the speed limiters to the controllers according to the camera scanning traffic signs.
Blind Spot Assist BSD with Lane Departure Assist (LCA)
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), which detects the presence of vehicles moving across the road when reversing on a busy road.
The all-new Optima and Sportage (http://www.kmanual.net/en/Sportage) are structurally improved over previous models thanks to the extensive use of Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS).
Passive safety is complemented by the presence of airbags for all passengers in the cabin, as well as a standard ISOFIX hook for attaching a rear child seat.
The all-new Optima is now available at the brand's European dealerships. The new Sportage, built at KIA's state-of-the-art plant in Zilina, Slovakia, will be sold in European markets from early 2016. Each KIA model (http://www.kmanual.net/en) has an unprecedented 7-year warranty or 150,000 km of run.
